July 2016 - North Goonyella Upgrade
This week Longwall Hydraulics shipped the final components to complete the Longwall Services Upgrade for Peabody Energy’s North Goonyella underground coal mine.
The project was successfully delivered within a tight timeline and budget constraints to ensure the mine can install the equipment as efficiently as possible, and achieve the targeted benefits during the next longwall block.
The project consisted of four elements of major modifications to existing equipment:
1. The High Pressure pump and tank carts were upgraded to suit the future requirements of the mine. The pump cart was reconfigured to house 5 x pressure pumps; 5 x hi-set pumps. The pump cart is now one of the largest of its type in Australia.
2. The existing Tank cart was modified to become one tank with 22,000 litre capacity.
3. The monorail concertina sections (over 450m) were fully stripped, repaired and modified to carry additional high pressure hoses required by the system.
4. The DCB cart was reconfigured to include the 2 x Shearer water pumps and 4 x filter housings.
The upgrade was split across our Unanderra and Mackay operations with over 6000 labour hours going into the build from our dedicated staff in NSW and QLD, delivering a great product for the customer.
We will continue to work closely with the team at North Goonyella over the coming months on commissioning to ensure a smooth transition to the new equipment and achievement of their future production targets.
