South 32 Met Coal Upgrades Continue

8th December 2020

South 32’s Dendrobium Mine has recently taken receipt of a new Pump Station, Substation and DCME with full factory acceptance testing being completed in our Unanderra facility. The pump system was the third new Longwall Hydraulics built machine for South 32 Met Coal operations in 2020, with Appin Mine taking receipt of two new machines during the year.

The Dendrobium pump station was an upgraded version to the system we supplied in 2011, and includes 2 x 500kw dual shaft motors, 2 x K35055-3G Kamat 350 bar system pumps and 2 x K25040-3G 415 bar hi-set pumps, decompression system, and onboard condition monitoring. The system incorporates the latest AmpControl remote isolation and communications.

The factory acceptance testing was completed at our facility using 11kVpower, this enabled all functionality and automation testing to be completed between the Pump station and Substation. The process was completed over a duration of one week. The new equipment has now been installed underground and commissioned successfully, with commissioning completed over a couple of shifts, further reinforcing the value of our “on power, factory acceptance testing” process.
